Investigating pathfinding in games for creating believable AI

By Luis Fos

abstract

This project looks at investigating current pathfinding methods used to better understand them and experiment in aim of improving believability in AI. I will be examining pathfinding for AI in games – specifically shooter/stealth games. In many games AI is unrealistic – whether it’s due to developers focusing attention elsewhere or there’s simply a lack of demand due to the popularity of online multiplayer gameplay. I aim to investigate methods for more realism by analysing the characteristics of human players to help devise a model for an agent to avoid danger in a realistic manner.
