This project has been an informal exploration of the creation and human perception of digital life. I have created a supporting program in order to try out some ideas and expand my knowledge of programming. So far in the program I have created basic digital creatures called Freaktures which move around the screen making decisions on where to go based on random values. I have purposely left the Freaktures without any textures or secondary animation because, based on my friends reactions even early on in the project, this seems to encourage a more natural, uninhibited use of the imagination.
I found that even though I have not, as yet, coded any actual interaction between the Freaktures, people would assign human attributes and emotions to them and believe that there was some interaction going on. Based on research into other games and from the kinds of things my friends believed the Freaktures were doing, I have come up with a number of ideas to try out in my program. It is very much a work in progress which I have found very interesting and I fully intend to continue working on it in my own time. I have concentrated on coming up with and exploring ideas, and finding my own ways of approaching and solving problems I encountered.
