With the advancement of computing power, hair and fur is becoming a growing area of the CG industry. With this growing demand for more realistic and believable looking hair, a lot of research has focussed on finding new and effective ways of recreating it in CG. Even though new tools and techniques have been developed; they are not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution. The creation of hair is heavily dependent on the visual style, workflow and level of
control sought by the artist.
The basis of my research developed from my experiences during my placement year as an Intern at Studio Distract, in which I noticed that there was no comprehensive workflow that would allow an artist to plan an entire hairstyle; whilst also having the capabilities to quickly and easily work in a hair system. The outcome of the project should be a tool that allows the artist to work faster and more efficiently through a more flexible back and forth workflow.
