‘Motion Capture – Satan’s rotoscope…’ (1)

Motion Capture – the technology that enables the process of translating a live performance into a digital one.
Motion capture, since its commercial inception in the mid 1980’s has had a tumultuous history. Many people believed initially that motion capture would replace more traditional methods of animation.
The predominant use of motion capture is to transpose human movement onto avatar like doubles in either video games or in feature films. Rarely is it used on subjects other than human like figures. The intention of this project was to research the range of motion capture techniques available and taking into account the inherent advantages and disadvantages of each assess the possibilities of anthropomorphism on traditionally inanimate objects -potentially simple household furniture -using motion capture.
