Vector Based Texturing in a Production Renderer

View all projects

By John Haddon

abstract

The predominant methods of texturing for production rendering in computer graphics are currently based on bitmap images and procedural algorithms. Although sufficient in many cases, both methods are in some way limited in terms of resolution, be it by storage requirements or issues of speed.

Two dimensional vector graphics provide resolution independent, low memory, scalable images. This document discusses the implementation of a system of texturing based on such a format, and its integration into a renderer via a procedural shading language.
