Bringing Time into Space

By Duncan Price

abstract

The aim of this innovations project was by means of thorough research, to study how earlier artists and photographers interpreted the idea of bringing time into space, using novel approaches and techniques for their time, to produce ground breaking visual work. Having evaluated the research, the objective was to then transpose and decipher some of their methods employing the computer as a tool to create innovative and original visual imagery. On a broader level, the resulting product was intended to change the way in which the audience perceives our every day visual experience.

The term ‘bringing time into space’ essentially means that at any one moment the viewer can look at more than one instant in time of a moving subject. These are often a succession of moments that allow the observer to see what space a subject in motion occupies as it passes through time.
