Digital Portraiture

By James Sutton

abstract

The purpose of my innervations project is for me to create a conceiving piece of artwork in the form of a digital 3d portrait. In order to do this i must research and discuss what goes into the process of creating a piece of artwork from an aesthetic point of view, right threw to an artists motives for creating a piece, to its particular function. By doing this i will be able to establish some of the thought processes which occur when producing a piece of art work with a motive and a distinct meaning. This in turn should inspire me to think more deeply about my surroundings and myself in order for me to gain a personal motive and a precise meaning to fuel the production of my portrait.

Portraiture is one of the most complex genres within the art world. It remains today as a source of continual astonishment, leading to a lot of disagreement over what the actual definition of a portrait is. It’s complexity is revealed through the use of gesture, in its vast vocabulary of physical postures and facial expressions, through complex compositions and subtle props, through personalized styles and perfect use of colour. All these elements are combined to convey a certain mood, which mimics the personality of the sitter.
