Testing Visual Camouflage

Abstract:

This project aims to demonstrate, through the design of a test of reaction speeds and analysis of test data, the difference in people's ability to detect objects when visually camouflaged.
This project does not present a final method of statistically anaylsing the effectiveness of computer generated imagery. The data set gathered, was too insignificant, in order to suggest averages are representative to a larger population. This project is a proxy model, to be used as a pilot for larger investigation, from which more statistically accurate conclusions can be drawn.
The test data can provide a useful prediction of the success a camouflage texture, in a variety of outdoor locations. The relationship between camouflage techniques, the viewer?s visual perception and the background environment is researched and the test results are evaluated in correspondence to this.
